River Whyless.

As lovely as Asheville, N.C.'s natural surroundings are, it's not surprising that the city's environment inspires its artists. That's certainly the case with River Whyless, an Asheville folk-rock band made up of Ryan O'Keefe (guitars, vocals), Halli Anderson (violin, vocals), Alex McWalters (drums, percussion) and Daniel Shearin (bass, vocals, harmonium, cello, banjo). Meticulous arrangements, strong singers and writers, and a gorgeous sound are at the heart of this band, which released a self-titled EP in January 2015 and is currently working on a new album.

As part of World Cafe's Sense Of Place trip to Asheville, we met River Whyless at Echo Mountain Studios for a conversation and performance. Hear the session above and watch a video from the set below.
