From the beginning, the work of Zach Condon and Beirut has been put together in a startlingly inventive style. Condon loves Balkan brass, so he made it part of his music, learning to play the instruments in order to produce the sound he'd heard in his head.
In December 2013, after three years of touring, Condon found himself hitting a wall both physically and musically, so he canceled his tour and regrouped. One of the results of that break is that on Beirut's new album, No No No, Condon shares composition duties with other group members rather than continuing to do all the writing alone. Hear a few of those new songs on this episode as Beirut makes its World Cafe debut.
