Newport Folk Festival programmers like to close their lineups on a note of uplift; to send fans to the exits feeling elated and moved. On that front, they couldn't have done much better than the great Mavis Staples, whose titanic career has spanned more than 60 years. Trigger Hippy is a roots rock powerhouse formed in 2009, whose prominent members include guitarist

Jackie Greene and drummer Steve Gorman of The Black Crowes, along with longtime singer/songwriter Joan Osbourne. The band joins us for a live midday concert on Friday, August 1st. So far, Trigger Hippy has only released one self-titled EP - four songs of blistering, blues-infused rock and roll – along with a live album recorded at the 2012 Wanee Festival in Live Oak, Florida. But they have plans to release a new album soon later this year.
